Conwy Valley Systems was established in 1997 by Dr Barrie Wells, Mark Gorst, both experienced geoscience data analysts and software developers, and the petrographer David Kitson. As well as PETROG, Conwy Valley Systems provide a range of other software and data management services.
PETROG was conceived and developed by Conwy Valley Systems to fill the need for a digital petrography system.
In 2001 Conwy Valley Systems developed a digitally controlled microscope slide stepping stage for use with fixed or rotary microscope stages to replace the traditional mechanical stepping stages, and to give greater accuracy and data coverage.
PETROG continues to be developed and now includes support for a number of digital microscope cameras.
PetrogLite has been added to the product range for those who wish to use the stepping stage to do point counting without images or data analysis.
