Windows 7 - 64 bit installation

2011-06-30: PETROG and PetrogLite will both work on Windows 7 in both 64 and 32 bit versions. There are some issues involved in PETROG interfacing with cameras in a 64 bit environment. PETROG is still a 32 bit program, and runs as such in a 64 bit environment. There will be a 64 bit version of PETROG. We are currently waiting for 64 bit versions of some of our development tools to be available so that we can produce a true 64 bit version. We expect that this will be able to deliver a 64 bit version of PETROG and PetrogLite in early 2012.

It is important to note that as PETROG is still a 32 bit application, that the camera interface should also be a 32 bit interface. This is normally a DLL that is installed with the camera. As the camera manufacturers are now shipping true 64 bit versions of some of their applications and drivers, this presents an installation issue. Some cameras install a 64 bit driver, which will work with the manufacturers applications and the camera, but will not work with 32 bit PETROG.

This has happened to some of our users, and so far the issue has been resolved by also installing the 32 bit driver which runs in the 64 bit environment, with the camera. This may not always be the case. Therefore, if you intend to install PETROG in a 64 bit environment we suggest that you check with the camera supplier or contact us to ensure that our PETROG software and the camera will work together.

This will only be a temporary situation until we have all the tools to provide a true 64 bit version.
